PARENTS and children at a primary school in Banbury gave a helping hand on Sunday to tidy up the grounds as part of their eco-school status.

The Grange Primary School in Avocet Way held the successful day in which a team of more than 35 people worked together to paint fencing, pick up litter and tidy up the school’s vegetable patches.

Sue Waterhouse, eco-coordinator and class teacher, said: “The children really enjoyed it, it is the third time the school has done something like this and it is growing in popularity.

“It gives you that pride in the sense of the community and the children came into school and said what they were doing. It is a really great community event.”

The school is currently working towards its third Green Flag award as part of the Eco-School initiative.

More than 1,500 schools across the country currently have the award.
