Praise for Banbury following big Help for Heroes concert
MHBG-19-07-12 Rosemarie Higham-Stevens Rosemarie is bringing the military wives to St Mary's to raise money for Help for Heroes
A popular businesswoman who organised a charity concert for her birthday in September has revealed it raised more than £17,000.
Rosemarie Higham-Stevens put on a concert for Help for Heroes at St Mary’s Church in Horse Fair on September 22, where the Military Wives from Warminster performed with international guitarist Raymond Burley and Banbury Choral Society.
She said: “I have had so many wonderful letters and cards from people who said that it was the best night they have ever had. The church was absolutely packed and it was lovely to see so many people singing together.”
More than 600 people gathered inside the venue to hear different songs including Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory.
The evening was also a chance to remember the thousands of military personnel both from Banbury and across the country serving overseas.
Mrs Higham-Stevens said: “I remember walking past some young people trying to recruit more people to join the army in Banbury, and they said the town is very generous in wanting to help their country. Our troops do such a wonderful job and are so brave.”
