Play time for children as centre receives donation

Children, parents and staff at the East Street Centre in Grimsbury were overjoyed to unveil their new soft play equipment on Friday after a year-long fundraising effort by members of Banbury Golf Club.

The Centre in Calder Close is run jointly by Oxfordshire County Council and the Grimsbury Family Association.

It was Banbury Golf Club’s chosen charity for 2012 and club captain Liam Jackson-Palin, whose wife Vicky uses the centre with their two toddlers, led fundraising efforts throughout the year which raised just under £1,000 to buy the new equipment.

The new items include variable density blocks and equipment which encourages babies to crawl and roll.

Claire Bell of the East Street Centre said: “Movement play is a major focus at the centre and the new pieces of soft play have been chosen to complement equipment we already have to facilitate the widest possible variety of early movement for 0-5 year olds of all needs and abilities.”

She added: “Early movement is vital for children’s development, not just their physical development but all areas, as it helps build connections in the brain and develop specific motor abilities which support later skills such as reading, attention and listening.

“We are really pleased to have been given this great new equipment which will be used across all groups at the centre.

The East Street Centre caters for more than 400 Banbury families.
