Olympic athlete pays a visit to students

AN OLYMPIC bronze medallist who competed in six consecutive Olympic Games will visit school students to inspire them to take up sports.
Alison Williamson MBE, will coach an archery session at Blessed George Napier School in Banbury on November 14 from 2.30pm-4.45pm.
It is hoped the visit will inspire children to take up the sport and join an archery club at the school which runs from noon-3pm on Sundays.
Ms Williamson, who competed in her first Olympic Games in 1992 and took bronze in Athens 2004, said: “As an athlete who has competed at the highest level, I hope that I can use my experiences to provide inspiration to young people and really encourage them to get into sport.”
The Sunday archery club is provided by Cherwell District Council in partnership with North Oxfordshire School Sport Partnership under the National Lottery’s Sportivate programme.
Cllr George Reynolds, Cherwell’s deputy leader, said: “It’s important for youngsters to get involved in sport as they often develop a lifelong love of it.
“There are so many different sports for them to try and we help organise sessions for many of them, so everyone should find something they enjoy.
“We’ve had a magnificent year for sporting achievement and have to be sure we make the most of the enthusiasm that has generated.”
Sportivate is a four-year, £32 million Lottery programme which gives 14 to 25-year-olds access to six-week courses to give them a chance to find a sport to pursue in their free time.
