MP takes ‘Save the Horton’ to heart

Banbury MP Sir Tony Baldry has pledged before Parliament to leave his body to medical science.

The town’s MP of 30 years said he hopes trainee doctors will find ‘Keep the Horton General’ engraved on his heart.

Sir Tony said during a debate on A&E units that ensuring the Horton’s future as a general hospital has been of the ‘greatest importance’ during his time as MP. He repeated his promise to leave his body to Oxford University’s anatomy department. “I want to ensure when they open me up they will find inscribed on my heart the words ‘Keep the Horton General’”, he said.

Speaking after the debate Sir Tony said: “I suspect the liver of anyone who has served more than 30 years as a Member of Parliament is probably worthy of anatomical study.”
