Mourning the loss of a ‘legend’
FRIENDS, family and sportsmen have paid tribute to a “larger than life” character following his tragic death in a farming accident.
Nigel Fox, known as Foxy, of Evenley, died after an incident on a farm in Wiltshire on November 2 and was formally identified last Wednesday.
His death has rocked sporting, farming and music communities, prompting hundreds of messages of support for his daughter Harrie, 24, son George, 19, and wife Sally whom he married in May.
Mr Fox also leaves a sister Jackie who said: “Nigel was a very loved dad, brother and husband. He was a devoted dad to his children and a devoted husband to his wife Sally.
“He adored his children. He was a most wonderful dad. It’s absolutely gut-wrenching because he was so happy. If we have anything to be thankful for, it is the fact that he died happy.”
Mr Fox was born at Rookery Farm, Hinton-in-the-Hedges, and the family moved to Evenley when he was two. He worked as a self-employed truck driver and ran the family farm.
He had a long rugby career, representing England Youth as a youngster and later playing prop forward for Northampton Saints. He also played and coached for Brackley and Buckingham Rugby Clubs respectively.
On its website, Brackley RC said: “Foxy was always larger than life and great company, be it playing his guitar or simply sharing a post-match pint.”
Mr Fox was also well known as a bass guitarist. He formed his first band in 1970 with Syd Twynham and the pair reunited about ten years ago to form The Montana’s.
Mr Twynham said: “It’s completely rocked the whole community. Foxy was a legend.
“Foxy was known and loved by thousands of people. He was a larger than life character. He was a big man with a big heart.”
