Man sentenced for child porn charges
A 47-YEAR-OLD man from Banbury has been handed a community order with an 18-month supervision requirement after pleading guilty to making indecent photographs of children.
At Banbury Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, Alan Burtonwood of Prospect Road, Banbury was sentenced for one count of making 117 indecent photographs of children and one count of making 112 indecent photographs of children.
Mark Moorcraft, prosecuting, told the court how on October 25 2011, police officers attended Mr Burtonwood’s home address with a search warrant when only his wife and other family members were there.
A computer was seized and Mr Burtonwood was arrested at his place of work later the same day before being interviewed by police.
It was discovered that some of the images had been viewed and some copied by Mr Burtonwood. The images were rated by police as 197 level one, ten level two, ten level three and 12 level four photographs.
Shirley Selby, defending, said Mr Burtonwood had taken a corrective course at the Lucy Faithful Foundation child protection charity in an effort to address the problem.
“Mr Burtonwood realised there is a problem and has tried to deal with it as best he can,” she said.
