Man’s ear bitten off in nightclub assault

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing GBH after an incident in a Banbury nightclub left another man with part of his ear bitten off.

It happened in the Sound Exchange on the High Street at about 12.30am this morning (Sunday) when the 19-year-old victim was on the dancefloor talking to a woman when he felt several blows to his head and fell to the floor. During the assault, part of his left ear was bitten off and he was taken to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital to receive treatment.

Detective Sergeant Jim Holmes, investigating the incident, said: “This was a violent and unprovoked assault which has left the victim requiring plastic surgery after part of his ear was bitten off.

“CCTV from the club shows the dance floor was crowded so there must be a number of people who saw the incident and I would urge them to come forward.”

The two men, aged 37 and 39, remain in police custody and anyone with information should call DS Holmes on the non-emergency number 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
