Last weekend to enjoy free festive car parking

A CHRISTMAS car parking
promotion which has seen fees waived for shoppers in Banbury will come to an end on Monday.

Last month, Cherwell District Council introduced a temporary scheme to scrap charges at its car parks in Banbury on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.

It aimed to boost trade in the town centre over the festive period and ran throughout December through to the first weekend in January.

Signs have been displayed advertising the promotion to motorists, which is expected to cost the council £100,000 in lost revenue.

The loss will be offset by money from the Portas Plus Funding, a grant awarded to the council by the Government earlier this year to encourage town centre trade.

Free parking will still be available this Saturday and Sunday, with the final day of the promotion taking place on Monday.

After that normal charges will resume on Mondays to Sundays.
