Hundreds join famous faces at traditional fete
FAMOUS faces and sunny skies helped to attract an estimated 1,000 people to the annual Priors Marston fete on Saturday.
Actress and model Patsy Kensit, best known for her roles in Emmerdale and Holby City, was given the honour of opening the fete, which was held at The Manor House in the village.
Having been advertised as the day’s special guest, visitors were then given an extra treat when comedian Rory Bremner surprised the crowds by introducing Ms Kensit to the event.
Geoff Barker, who helped to organise the event with others in the village said: “The day went exceptionally well. The combination of the sunshine, an RAF flypast and the special guests meant it was a wonderful, community event in a spectacular setting. It was a typical, traditional village fete with all the usual attractions within a wonderful setting.
“It couldn’t have gone any better. Rory Bremner started the fete by introducing Patsy and he was his very funny self, while Patsy looked radiant and stunning – she just oozed beauty.”
Ms Kensit was invited to open the event by a friend living in the village while Mr Bremner’s presence coincided with a visit to the residents of The Manor.
The fun got under way at 2pm and throughout the day visitors enjoyed a range of attractions and entertainment. For the youngsters the fun included face painting, toys and games such as hook-a-duck, pony rides and coconut shies. There was also a fancy dress competition judged by Ms Kensit.
For the adults, there were a range of stalls including a boutique stand selling vintage items, cakes and a Pimm’s stand.
And shortly before 4.30pm everyone was treated to a flypast by an RAF Hawk plane.
This year was the first time the fete has taken place in September as a clash of dates forced the rescheduling of the event which normally takes place in June.
Mr Barker said: “This is the first time we have done it in September but we’re glad we did because the sun was shining on Saturday and it would have been raining in June!”
Money raised from the event is still being counted but will be donated to covering the running costs of the village church.
