Haul of stolen equestrian goods to be put on display

BANBURY police are hoping to return hundreds of pounds of horse tack to its rightful owners after recovering it from an address in Banbury.

The haul of 180 items including saddles, horse rugs and bridles was seized after a warrant was executed at an address in Grimsbury on December 12.

Two men aged 53 and 52 and a woman aged 53 were arrested and bailed in connection with the haul and investigations are ongoing. Now officers are organising an open day next Tuesday (January 15) so horse owners who have had items stolen over the past year can recover their property.

DC Steve Dixon of Banbury CID, who is organising the event, said: “We believe these items relate to a number of break-ins at stables and lock-ups over the course of 2012.

“We’re interested to hear from anybody who has had horse tack stolen over the course of 2012 who might be able to identify these items.” Detective Sergeant Steve Birchall added: “People in rural areas get the same service as those in the town centre.

“We will take every opportunity to action information we get about rural crime.”

On Tuesday (January 8) officers had another success in tackling rural crime when they seized a trailer full of electric tools that had been stolen from the Scout camp in Horley.

A 22-year-old Banbury man has been charged with burglary in connection with the offence.

Tuesday’s open day will take place at Banbury Police Station from 9am-4pm.

Anyone who thinks the equipment might belong to them should call 101 and ask for Banbury local CID, or go to the front desk on the day. Owners should be prepared to give a detailed description of their equipment.
