Growing new business is a pressing concern!

The winner of the Banbury Guardian’s Local Business Accelerator competition to find and promote the most promising young business in the region has been announced.

A judging panel consisting of Hamptons International director Chris Scott, Banbury & District Chamber of Commerce chairman and Plus One Personnel director Claire Kingsbury and Banbury Guardian editor Jason Gibbins selected cider making company The Little Orchard Company from a list of high-quality entries.

Five hundred local newspapers nationwide have taken part in the campaign to provide a boost to promising young businesses, with one business from all winners nationwide receiving mentoring support from Dragons’ Den star Deborah Meaden.

As the Banbury winner, The Little Orchard Company will receive mentoring support from the three judges, free advertising in the Banbury Guardian and a fantastic £1,500 of free accountancy advice from chartered accountants Ellacotts, who sponsored the event.

Banbury Guardian editor Jason Gibbins said: “I would like to congratulate The Little Orchard Company for standing out from a very high-quality list of entrants. The LBA competition has once again proved extremely popular, highlighting the business talent and potential we have in our region.

“I would also like to thank judges Chris Scott and Claire Kingsbury and sponsors Ellacotts for their fantastic support to this campaign.”

The Little Orchard Company was formed in August 2011 and makes and distributes cider and apple juice from its orchard in Warmington and cidery at Sugarswell Business Park, Shenington,

Josephine Dakin, who runs the business with Antony Harrison, said: “I honestly can’t believe it. The advertising support means so much to us because this year is all about name building. We know so many people read local newspapers so local paper advertising is fantastic!”
