Green Deal secured for west Oxfordshire folk
WEST Oxfordshire District Council has successfully bid for a £600,000 government grant to help households and businesses increase their energy efficiency.
The council applied for the Green Deal grant on behalf of 18 local authorities. The scheme provides loans, with no upfront costs, to help residents save money on fuel bills by subsidising improvements in insulation, draught proofing, double glazing, boilers/heating systems and renewable energy technologies such as solar panels.
The consortium is being supported by a range of organisations including Oxford and Cherwell Valley College and will form a not-for-profit company to administer Green Deal, which is due to launch in mid-2013.
Cllr David Harvey, the council’s cabinet member for environment, said: “We are delighted to be working with so many other forward-thinking authorities and organisations and to have led a successful bid for funding.”
