Great day for charity
MORE than 60 people took part in a Memory Walk through Banbury to raise funds for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The annual event, which in now in its sixth year, took place on Saturday, September 29 and a procession set off on a circular route from Banbury Cross heading along High Street, Market Place and Parsons Street.
Accomplished bagpiper Steve Duffy, a Banbury police officer, also accompanied the walkers on the route.
Francis Claydon of the Alzheimer’s Society’s Banbury branch, based at the Colin Sanders Innovation Centre in Mewburn Road, said: “The sounds of the bagpipes and the sight of so many people walking proudly through town was hugely uplifting. It was an absolutely fantastic event and lots of people turned up to support it.”
The event saw dementia sufferers and their carers walk through the town, aiming to raise awareness of the condition.
Mrs Claydon said: “There were even young people who were crossing the road to come and donate money into our boxes on the day. It was a really uplifting event for people with dementia and their families.”
