Generous donation by school to help out children’s ward
A school in Brackley has helped a medical ward at Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital by donating more than £950 to pay for equipment for patients.
Children at Winchester House School Pre-Prep have donated the amount to Melanie’s Ward, the adolescent ward at the hospital.
The cash was raised through festive performances and the sale of Christmas cards that were designed by the children. Zoe Pooley, lead nurse for Melanie’s Ward, said: “The school are lovely to raise money for the ward and we will make good use of any donations.
“The DVD collection always needs updating and magazine subscriptions are very useful.
“We have the ward iPads now and try to keep them full of apps and we are also planning to replace the dayroom furniture, which is looking shabby.” The pre-prep decided to raise money for the ward after an ex-pupil benefitted from its care.
Children were told about how the money would be spent, which also includes the purchase of electronic equipment for inpatients.
Melanie’s Ward at the John Radcliffe caters for adolescent patients.
There is a space for a parent’s bed next to each inpatient’s bed.
