A fun day centred around food and the preparation of food was held at a Banbury children’s centre to help residents learn more about maths and nutrition.

The Sunshine Centre in Bretch Hill held the fun-filled food day for all the family last Friday to promote healthy eating and give handy tips about cooking on a budget.

More than 90 people, including children up to the age of 11 and adults, attended the centre on the day and took part in a variety of activites which included food group quizzes.

A cookery demonstration was also held by staff from Limes Farm in Farthinghoe with ‘healthy food on a budget’ being the subject. This was aimed at both parents and children. The centre’s health promoter Sharon Ellis said: “It was a very successful day.

“The aim was to link food activities with maths such as weighing, measuring and counting and the children really enjoyed themselves as they did some food shopping, measuring and tasting of course!

“We’ve had really good feedback from parents saying they learnt a lot about healthy eating and got ideas for new recipes to make at home and that they had a good time.”
