MANY have long suggested Parsons Street in Banbury needs to adopt a Mediterranean-style cafe culture to pull in the punters.

Now the proprietor of a newly-opened deli and cafe is hoping to do just that.

Cathi Cooper, who launched her Old Town Deli and Cafe on Tuesday, says it is the realisation of a long-held dream.

“I worked here for three years under the previous manager and absolutely loved the job,” she said.

“I thought this was an opportunity that was too good to miss and if I didn’t take it I would regret it for the rest of my life.”

Mrs Cooper says she is delighted by the response the cafe has received from Banbury residents.

“It’s been a been a great first day,” she said.

“I’m overwhelmed by the support of local people who say they are especially looking forward to buying our special breads, cheeses and meats. Many have said how nice it will be to have a shop which goes some way to restoring the charm of yesteryear to our old town.”

Mum-of-two Mrs Cooper learnt much of her craft working in the restaurant at Sainsbury’s where she
developed a strong rapport with customers.

Friends and family including Mrs Cooper’s mum and husband have pulled together to get the business off the ground and she hopes the cafe will be a place where people can meet and relax.

Tomorrow (Friday) the Old Town will participate in Banbury’s Victorian Market Day and passers-by will be served with mulled wine, and home-made mini mince pies.

Visitors will also have the opportunity to win a hamper filled with Old Town fare to be raffled in aid of autism charity Parents Talking Aspergers.

The cafe serves a range of platters and sandwiches and fine Italian coffee, whilst the delicatessen offers speciality cheeses, breads, cured meats, olives and delicacies.
