Decision is due on controversial supermarket
A DECISION on a controversial plan to build a supermarket in Shipston-on-Stour will be made by councillors next week.
Members of Stratford-on-Avon District Council’s planning committee (East) will meet at Shipston High School on Thursday, January 24 to discuss the application to develop land off Campden Road.
Developer ASL is proposing to build an extra care retirement development of 80 cottages and 50 apartments, 54 houses, a supermarket and petrol station.
Critics of the proposal, including local business owners, believe if the application is approved it will take trade away from the town centre. Concerns over trade were echoed by the council’s independent advisor Richard Doidge, who said the development would have a “significant adverse effect” on the town centre.
The public meeting will begin at 6.10pm in the school’s main hall.
