Council dispute over recycling centre access rumbles on

A DISPUTE between Chipping Norton Town Council and West Oxfordshire District Council over access land for a planned recycling centre in the town is rumbling on, despite several attempts to resolve it.
The town council owns the strip of land which will provide road access to the proposed site at the former WODC-owned Greystones depot.
Chipping Norton Town Council has asked for a £5,000 per annum rent for the land with the first two years free, but after three separate meetings between councillors and officials WODC refused to agree to the offer.
At a crunch meeting on Friday December 21, WODC officers tabled an offer of a one-off payment for the land, which Chipping Norton Town Mayor Martin Jarratt said will now need to be considered by the town council on January 21.
Mr Jarrat said: “With increasing costs such as the provision of grit bins, snow clearing equipment and the maintenance of the town hall, the rent would be used for the town.”
