Consultation over new school
OPINIONS are being sought on the future of a new free school which is set to open its doors for the first time in September.
A six-week public consultation has been launched regarding Heyford Park Free School which will eventually educate 840 pupils from reception up to school leaving age.
The Heyfordian School Trust, which manages the school, is seeking feedback from across the community, including parents, elected officials and residents regarding the prospect of the school.
Principal David Castles said: “At Heyford Park Free School we strive for excellence and have set ambitious targets for our students and the school.
“We believe our small, nurturing, all-through school will provide an approach to learning that will allow students to realise their full potential as learners and people.
“That is why we have built opportunities for personalised learning into the heart of our curriculum, and why we intend to engage parents and the wider community at every possible opportunity.”
The school will be housed in the former officers’ mess at the old USAF base in Upper Heyford.
The building will undergo a £10 million conversion project before welcoming its first 120 pupils in reception and Year Seven next year. From then on the intake will expand by two classes of 30 pupils each year until it reaches its capacity in 2019.
