Closure reports of Banbury Blockbuster store denied

Reports that Banbury’s Blockbuster store is closing and all staff are being made redundant have been denied by PR firm Smithfield.

Residents have told the Banbury Guardian the South Bar store is one of the 49 branches being bought by supermarket giant Morrisons to be turned into a convenience store.

Morrisons spokesman Laura Stubbs said: “We can confirm that we are acquiring 49 stores but we are unable to release any locations at the moment.”

Deloitte was appointed administrator for the DVD rental firm on January 16, and announced on February 13 that closures are set to take place over the coming weeks.

However, Smithfield PR, working on behalf of Deloitte, has said Banbury is “not on their list of stores closing”.
