Children’s centre in deprived area gets ‘good’ grade in Ofsted report
A CHILDREN’S centre in one of the region’s most deprived areas has been given an overall ‘good’ grade with elements of ‘outstanding’.
Ofsted inspectors visited East Street Children’s Centre, on Calder Close, Grimsbury, at the beginning of December and awarded it an overall level two ‘good’ grade.
The report highlights Grimsbury as being among the 20 per cent most deprived areas in England.
It added: “Parents and carers were very keen to share their experiences of the centre and how they have been helped to improve, even transform, their lives because of the excellent quality of care for families at the centre.”
Specific areas awarded level one, ‘outstanding’ grades included “the extent to which children are safe and protected” and “the extent to which equality is promoted and diversity celebrated”.
Head of the centre Lesley Bourne said: “It was heartening to find many parents spoke highly of the centre when approached by the inspectors.
“However we will not be resting on our laurels and will continue to develop in response to local need.”
For further improvement, inspectors recommended the centre should develop the skills of its newly-created advisory group and to make more use of available information in order to maximise the engagement with families in the reach area.
