Charity now has blood on board

THAMES Valley and Chiltern Air Ambulance (TVCAA) will now carry lifesaving blood on board its helicopters.

The announcement follows the invention of a specialised blood cool box, which allows each of the charity’s aircraft to carry and store blood for 72 hours.

They will carry two units of blood permanently to assist on-board doctors and any blood not used will be recycled within the hospital so none is wasted.

Sarah Williamson, fundraising manager for TVCAA, said: “This is an important milestone in the development of the Air Ambulance service we provide for the communities we serve.”
