Banbury Run

RUNNERS are being urged to sign up for a popular annual event.

The Banbury Fun Run brings together thousands of running enthusiasts and professional runners at Spiceball Park each year, and will take place on Sunday, March 24.

Organiser Geoff Smith said: “We are hoping the Olympic euphoria that everyone experienced last summer can bring new people to enter this race.

“There have been runners who took part in the 15-mile race for the first time last year that want to do it again.”

Runners from clubs across the country regard the tough 15-mile run as good preparation for the London Marathon in April, while others choose the shorter two-mile route in memory of former Banbury Guardian editor Paul Bithell. A one-mile fun run for under-14s will also take place.

The 15-mile race will set off at 10.30am, followed by the two-mile race at 10.40am and the one-mile fun run at 11.10am.

Funds raised from the event will support Katharine House Hospice. It costs £12 to enter the 15-mile race, £4.50 for the two-mile route and £1 for the under-14s fun run.

A team of five entering the two-mile race costs £14.

Entry forms are available from the Banbury Guardian offices in North Bar, Spiceball Leisure Centre and Essential Sports in Parsons Street.
