Roulette, black jack and card games are the name of the game on Saturday when a Casino Night is held in Middle Barton.

Banbury Lions are donning croupiers’ gear to attend tables at the fundraising event.

A chili supper and a wad of Monopoly money is included in the £10 tickets for the night, which is being held at Middle Barton Sports and Social Club to raise money towards a £17,000 appeal to buy a six-year-old disabled girl a sophisticated new wheelchair.

Lily Ilott was diagnosed with spinal muscular atrophy 18 months after her birth. Her parents, Jo and Mathew, were unaware that both were carriers of a genetic disorder.

“Lily has grown out of her current wheelchair; the seat is now too small for her and we’re hoping we can raise the money to buy her a new one by the end of the year,” said Mrs Ilott, of Worton Road, Middle Barton.

The couple have moved to a bungalow where adaptations have been made to allow Lily to move around her home. But these have stretched the family’s large mortgage.

“Lily will be in a wheelchair for the rest of her life. Her condition is a life-limiting one; she can’t bear weight on her limbs and she has to have daily physiotherapy to ensure her joints don’t seize up,” said Mrs Ilott.

“It’s really hard for her emotionally. She has dreams where she can walk and she can see her baby sister, Gracie learning to walk. This is the first big fundraising event but someone is doing a sponsored slim and my husband is going to do some marathons.”

Tickets for the evening can be bought from the club, Middle Barton Stores or email jojo.lily’smum@hotmail.co.uk

There will be an auction and raffle.
