Cash donation supports archery club
A NEW archery club which was set up to boost children’s skills, self esteem and confidence has received a £1,000 donation for equipment.
Staff at Banbury Academy applied for funding from the National Association of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers (NASUWT) to support an extra curricular archery course at the school.
The six-week programme, which is run by the Oxfordshire School Sports Partnership, is open to students in Years Eight, Nine and Ten to enable them to learn a new skill and enhance their self esteem.
It is hoped by providing the course pupils will utilise their new confidence within the school, enabling them to further their learning.
At the end of the course the students will then host an archery event for the academy’s partnership primary schools using new equipment bought with the donation. Tegan Davis, 14, said: “The main thing I have got out of the course is confidence as well as learning how to do archery. Having more confidence will help me answer questions aloud in lessons and let me talk to other people.”
Anne Macdonald, treasurer of Oxfordshire NASUWT said: “We are in unanimous support of this venture.”
