Banbury pedestrians put at risk by cyclists
POLICE officers are warning cyclists to keep off pavements after pedestrians have reported several near-misses and incidents of abuse in Banbury.
Thames Valley Police has received numerous reports from members of the public complaining they have nearly been hit by cyclists and had abuse shouted at them.
This is with regard to incidents in Castle Street, Oxford Road and the pedestrianised areas of Banbury town centre.
Officers are reminding cyclists that riding on pavements is illegal and poses a risk to pedestrians, particularly those who are elderly or hard of hearing who may not hear cyclists or be able to get out of the way quickly.
Cyclists who are caught riding on paths will receive a £30 fine from the Banbury town centre neighbourhood team under sections 28 and 29 of the Road Traffic Act 1988.
