Banbury fire crews have had a busy week

BANBURY firefighters have been called out several times in the last couple of days.

This morning (Wednesday) they attended an incident on the A422 by Blacklocks Hill between Banbury and Middleton Cheney.

A car had lost control and rolled off the edge of the carriage way but the driver was not injured.

Banbury station manager Chris Wilson urged people to be extra careful when driving in the current weather.

He said: “Please, please, please take greater care in the snowy, icy conditions and keep journeys to an absolute minimum.”

Just after 7pm on Saturday, firefighters were called to Oakham Road, Little Rollright, where a CCTV camera had picked up what was believed to be a fire but was in fact only street lighting.

About 2pm on Monday, a crew was called to Cromwell Road, Banbury, where a bonfire had been set up burning plastic which was producing toxic smoke.

Station manager Darran Hookway said: There are several recycling facilities around Cherwell and people should be looking at recycling their waste instead of burning them.”

At 9.30am yesterday (Tuesday) a crew was called to a car that was on fire on Thorpe Way industrial estate in Banbury and at 1pm the same day firefighters were called to The Ridings care home in Calder Close, Banbury, where a person was trapped in a lift.

About 6pm the same day a crew was called to a bin fire in Grimsbury Square.
