Young footballer flown to hospital after head injury

A 12-year-old boy was airlifted to hospital on Saturday after suffering a head injury during a football match in Middleton Cheney.

The boy is believed to be from Birmingham and was playing in goal for a West Bromwich Albion feeder team when he had to go off after colliding with his teammate. After spending some time off the pitch, he came back on and was involved in another collision with another teammate and an opposing player. He spend a significant amount of time with reduced levels of consciousness.

He was assessed and treated by an off-duty emergency care practitioner before being treated the Warwickshire and Northamptonshire Air Ambulance (WNAA) arrived at about 11.10am with the boy still in a state of confusion. He was given pain relief and was flown to Birmingham Children’s Hospital for further treatment.
