Woman driver taken to hospital after serious crash near Shipston-on-Stour

A 70-year-old woman was airlifted to hospital on Friday after a serious road traffic collision near Little Compton, Shipston-on-Stour.

It happened at about 1.20pm on the A44 at Kitebook and involved a Peugeot 206 saloon, grey Mercedes estate and blue Ford Fiesta saloon.

It is believed the Ford Fiesta, driven by the woman, was travelling towards Chipping Norton and was in collision with the Mercedes and then the Peugeot, who were both travelling in the opposite direction.

The road was closed for approximately four hours to allow emergency services to attend the scene. The women was cut free from the vehicle by Warwickshire Fire and Rescue and flown to University Hospitals Coventry & Warwickshire for further treatment. She remains in hospital with a broken leg and fractured back.

The female driver of the Peugeot is believed to have suffered minor injuries and the occupants of the Mercedes are not believed to have been injured.
