Local favourite Richard White was presented with the Longest Standing Trader award by Chris Heath, chairman of Cherwell District Council, on Saturday, May 21.

The award was presented at the Banbury edition of Love Your Local Market 2016, a national campaign offering free pitches and insurance to new traders who want to try their hand at being their own boss.

Cllr Heath said: “Over the years Richard has built up a warm rapport with the townspeople and it was a real pleasure to be able to recognise his decades of hard work with this award.

“Banbury market is not just a retail outlet, but a community asset which brings us all together at the heart of the town. Nobody embodies these values better than Richard.”

Richard started working from a young age and now works alongside his son, selling good quality fruits and vegetables to the public. He likes to employ local people to support the community and is extremely popular on the market with a presence every Thursday and Saturday.

This was the fourth time that Banbury market, run by Cherwell District Council in partnership with Sketts, has participated in Love Your Local Market.
