The next night at Banbury Folk Club on Wednesday, May 21 will be a Comic Song Competition.

Local singer/songwriters have been invited to book in up to three songs that they have written on a comic theme. There is a prize of £50 for the winning song!

The entries will be judged by a panel of three, comprising two performers of Comic Songs, Bill Bates and Dave Lovick, and one of the Folk Club’s regular supporters, Geoff Phipps.

There will be an audience vote in case of a tie.Club organisers Derek and Mary Droscher said: “The Songwriting Competition is an annual event at the Folk Club, but this year we thought it would be a bit different to have a comic twist.

“Writing funny songs is not easy, as humour depends so much on engaging an audience and having an original idea.”

The performance starts at 8pm. Entry is £6/£5 concessions on the door. Performers are free. For more details look at the club website www.banburyfolkclub.co.uk.
