A couple will celebrate 30 years as landlords of the Blinking Owl pub in North Newington on Saturday.
David and Sylvia Pursey first brought the 17th Century building on Main Street in December 1983 and will host a special quiz night at 7.30pm to mark the occasion.
Mrs Pursey said: “We saw this as a challenge as the building needed a lot of work doing to it. We tried to bring back its old original features such as an old fireplace that was hidden for many years.
“It has all been worthwhile in the end with the work we have done.
“We got it to how we wanted it and the pub has been like a family business as our three children also helped out when they were younger. ”
Before the purchase of the pub, the couple had brought a house in Devon and converted it into a guest house. Upon buying the Blinking Owl, they have completed renovation works including transforming a barn into bed and breakfast accommodation featuring three double rooms all with en suites.
Mrs Pursey said: “We really enjoy meeting new people, from this country and abroad. Dave has got that banter that makes the pub have a really good atmosphere.”
