An eclectic mix of arts, drama and comedy will be on offer at this year’s Brackley Fringe Festival

Spread over three days, it aims to help promote talent in the town with a varied programme in the town centre and across other town venues.

The first event will be a comedy night at the football club tomorrow (Friday), starting at 7.30pm.

Alan Smith, event co-ordinator, said: “We have been thinking of an event to help give a platform for youngsters to perform in the town, and we have come up with a mixture of different events. The town needs something to make it successful as we are not big enough to have a shopping centre for example. The festivals held in the town throughout the year help bring people to use our facilities and everyone is really positive. The town centre is going to be absolutely buzzing.”

Saturday will be known as Big Fringe Saturday and performances in the town hall are from 12.30pm, starting with students from the Royal Latin School in Buckingham who will be performing their exam pieces.

Brackley Players will be performing Humorous Poems from My Past at 1.30pm, and Ray Haresign will recite a series of monologues in a performance called The Way They Tell Them (All Over the World) at 4.30pm. A children’s magic show starts at 2.30pm.

The evening’s entertainment at the town hall starts at 6.45pm and features The Blue Theatre Group, who are on a national tour with Statistics Unavailable.

Concluding the weekend will be Super Fringe Sunday at the rugby club from noon to 10.30pm.

It will feature a wide range of music on two stages, and includes craft stalls, circus skills and a licensed bar throughout the day. Headlining the event will be Rhapsody, one of the most successful Queen tribute acts in the world. It costs £5 adults, £2.50 children under 16 and free for under 5s.
