Banburyshire audiences shouldn’t miss the opportunity to enjoy Lionel Bart’s multi-award-winning masterpiece, Oliver! when Banbury Operatic Society stages it at Wykham Theatre, Banbury Academy, from February 18-22.
Based upon the children’s novel by Charles Dickens, Oliver! follows the story of an orphan who runs away from a workhouse and falls in with a gang of boys who are trained to be pickpockets by gang leader, Fagin. It includes well-known songs such as Food Glorious Food, Consider Yourself, Oom-Pah-Pah and As Long As He Needs Me.
Performed for the first time by BOS, the show is directed by Steve Hatt, making his directorial debut for the society as well as designing a stunning set.
Musical direction is provided by Nick Perry and there are some eye-catching and exuberant dance routines from choreographer, Sharon Green.
Oliver is played by Anna Hassall and Zara Walton and the Artful Dodger is played by Emma Peters and Josh Berrie. Dave Smith returns to BOS to play Fagin and the society is delighted to welcome Ruth Draper in her debut performance for BOS as Nancy.
