Banbury Guardian reader Amjid Khan took this video of the car fire at Morrisons car park on Friday evening.
Mr Khan, who lives in the Cherwell Heights area, was coming out of the supermarket on Swann Close Road at about 7pm when he saw the vehicle, and said: “You don’t see anything like this at all, I was really surprised by the intensity of the fire. The first thing I thought was is the car going to blow up? The owner of the car was talking to staff and really distraught. He was asking them why they couldn’t have put the fire out sooner when it wasn’t as big.”
Firefighters from Hook Norton used two hose reels to put out the fire, and watch manager Ivor Matthews said the incident is not believed to be suspicious. He said: “When we arrived we found the car well alight in the car park with lots of spectators. People were all out of the way and no other vehicles were close to it thankfully otherwise it could have gone from one car to another.
“I don’t think the fuel tank exploded in this case, if it had it would have been a different scenario.”
