A talking lamppost giving out useful information on the negative effects of alcohol helped to clinch first prize for Magdalen College School, Brackley in the Northamptonshire County Schools Design Challenge.

Four students, Shannon Smith, Hannah Furse, Katherine Hart and Emily Wright (pictured), beat eight other finalists to win. Their presentation included a video clip showing how the lamppost could also provide CCTV to spot early signs of anti-social behaviour. Northants Crime Reduction Unit is considering how to turn their invention into reality.
