A free-lance photographer from Chipping Norton has today been charged with piracy after being arrested on a Greenpeace mission in Russia.
Father of three Phil Ball has been charged today along with 18 other members of the mission on board the Arctic Sunrise vessel which sailed to protest against drilling for fossil fuels in the Arctic,
Mr Ball was part of a team of 30 arrested on September 18 when armed Russian FSB officers in balaclavas and carrying machine guns, intercepted the vessel as it approached the Prirazlomnaya platform - Russia’s first off-shore oil rig.
No future date has been set for the trial and Greenpeace lawyers are currently working to have the team released.
Greenpeace are also supporting Mr Ball’s wife and three children.
