A couple from Greatworth will compete in the Great North Run for Macmillan Cancer Support on Sunday – after spending three days cycling the 260 miles to Newcastle.
Geoff Dennison is doing the event as part of his 60th birthday celebrations with wife Karen and the couple will travel up north with friend Nick Murphy.
The couple completed the Land’s End to John O’Groats Cycle challenge 20 years ago for Geoff’s 40th birthday and raised more than £5,000 for the charity,
Mr Dennison said of this latest challenge: “The closer we get to the date the dafter the idea seems, but I take the view that I am fortunate enough to still be able to do this – even at 60,”
“My mother had the benefit of a Macmillan nurse prior to her death so I appreciate the tremendous work the charity does.”
Anna Fowler, fundraising manager at Oxford, believes that people living with and beyond cancer have a growing need for medical, emotional, practical and financial support. She said: “It’s always inspiring to see members of the public going above and beyond to support Macmillan. Donations account for 98 per cent of our income so fundraising has never been more important to ensure that no-one in Oxfordshire has to face cancer alone.”
