Banbury’s newly-formed Community Action Group (CAG) is inviting people to its first ever Give or Take and More! event being held next weekend.

The sustainability group is holding the free event on Saturday, March 22 at the Banbury Hub/New Futures Centre in Hilton Road from 10am to noon.

People will be able to bring, take or swap items, such as clothes, books, DVDs and toys.

There will also be furniture upcycling, bike repairs, advice on reducing food and energy bills and an opportunity to find out your carbon footprint.

Food samples will be on offer and there will be a Fairtrade café open to all.

The new Banbury group is part of the Community Action Group Project (CAG) which helps raise awareness and takes action on pressing environmental issues including waste reduction and sustainable transport.

Simon Kenton of the CAG project said: “As well as being an ideal opportunity to clear clutter and reduce the amount of stuff we throw away, swap shops make a real impact on Oxfordshire’s environment.

“In 2012/13 more than 80 swap shops were held across the county, diverting more than 30 tonnes of items away from landfill.” The Banbury CAG meets at 7.30pm on the last Monday of the month at St John’s Centre, Dashwood Road.
