WARWICKSHIRE Police and Northamptonshire Police have confirmed who will hold each of their forces to account as their new Police and Crime Commissioners.
Adam Simmonds (Conservative) has taken victory in the election for the Northamptonshire Police and Crime Commissioner.
Deirdre Newham, who held the position of the county’s police authority chairman, said: “I would like to offer my congratulations to Adam Simmonds on becoming the first Police and Crime Commissioner for Northamptonshire.
“The Police Authority has worked hard to ensure that the handover to the new office of the Police and Crime Commissioner will be as seamless as possible and we will be working with Mr Simmonds to make sure that they are able to hit the ground running next Thursday.”
In Warwickshire, Independent candidate Ron Ball took victory and was welcomed by the force’s Chief Constable Andy Parker.
Mr Parker said: “I would like to congratulate Ron Ball on his appointment as police and crime commissioner and I look forward to working with him and our partners to reduce harm in Warwickshire.
“This is a new role, and one which will face many challenges, but I am confident that we can continue to reduce crime and make our communities safer.
“I would also like to place on record my thanks to Warwickshire Police Authority who have made an enormous contribution to policing in Warwickshire and seen the force reduce crime significantly over the last decade. In the first six months of this year the force recorded its lowest levels of crime for many years with a 11% reduction on the previous year.
“I am confident that with the new governance arrangements in place we can build on the firm foundations which have been laid.”
