Banbury was rocked by mod culture earlier this month as Hardwick Social Club hosted an event which raised more than £1,200 in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The March of the Mods event, which took place on March 1, is one of 30 being held across the UK this month to raise money for the charity.

Organiser Ben Smith called on the Banbury mod community to help out – and they certainly did as a total of £1,270 was raised.

He said: “Once I heard about March of The Mods I wanted in. I thought it would be a great chance to organise an event I myself would like to attend and also raise money for a fantastic cause.”

Four bands and four DJs gave up their Saturday night for free. Participating were Acoustic Who, The Monkeyshine, 2tones and The Meanies and the four DJs were Howard Jones, Nick “Topsy” Turvey, Jamie Byrne and John Thornicroft.

“I just want to thank everyone involved and those who attended for making this event a success,” said Mr Smith.
