A MEMORIAL service for a 47-year-old father of two who died after a road traffic collision in December is to be held at St Mary’s Church in Woodford Halse at 2pm on Saturday.

Edward Martin – known to many as Ed – died after his MG car collided with a
VW Golf driven by a 21-year-old woman on Banbury Lane, Thorpe Mandeville on Friday, December 14.

Mr Martin’s former partner Annie Winsland paid tribute to the father of her two children, aged nine and 12, describing him as “funny, quirky, and someone who could light up a room”.

“He could turn every little occasion into something a lot more fun because of his imagination,” she added.

“He lived for the outdoors, had a huge amount of information about living outdoors and was a bit of a Ray Mears.

“He was a brilliant dad and the children will miss him very much.

“He taught the children to have real stamina and to just give things a go and to follow their dreams.”

Mr Martin was born in Chard in Somerset and lived on a narrow boat in Bradford and Cropredy before moving to Northamptonshire seven years ago. He trained as a landscape gardener and in recent times had worked for TGM Landscape Services in Warwkworth.

Mr Martin’s family have requested guests at the memorial service do not wear black. “Ed would have wanted a colourful goodbye,” said Miss Winsland.
