Hook Norton runner Gill Begnor is hoping to get herself a place in the Guinness Book of World Records – by running a marathon with a hefty 20lb pack on her back.
Mrs Begnor is something of a fundraising legend, having run the London Marathon dressed as a bottle of Hooky ale not once, but twice!
She has raised thousands of pounds for cancer charities including Leukaemia Research and Cancer Research UK.
On April 13, Mrs Begnor will attempt to set a ‘first’ record for Guinness, being the first woman to run a marathon carrying a 20lb pack. “There is no current record for a woman – and having now run 2.5 miles with a 20lb pack I know why!” she said.
“Nevertheless, Guinness World Records set me a limit of five hours in order to qualify for the record ‘so that every record gained is an impressive feat’.
“In response to my protestations that crawling over the line on all fours in less than five weeks carrying a 20lb pack would be an ‘impressive feat’, they have generously allowed me an extra half an hour!”
Mrs Begnor, who has been training hard for some weeks, will be raising funds for Cancer Research UK again.
She has set a £1,900 target and those wishing to support her efforts should visit her Just Giving site at www.justgiving.com/4thMidLifeCrisis
