Man on a mission in the name of music

A music enthusiast has made it his mission to bring excellent bands to Banbury and give young local acts a chance to hone their craft – all while reviving a community hall.

Eddie Quinn, manager/founder of Small Town Mentality Records, used to go to St John’s Parish Club in Dashwood Road as a child and now, at the age of 41, he has decided to bring the facility back into the limelight.

His aim is to organise a few events per year, combining acts from both in and out of town. The first night he organised at the club took place last month and featured former Inspiral Carpets frontman Tom Hingley in a sell-out show. Mr Quinn said: “I don’t want to compete with the other venues in town – I just want to get even more of a music scene going in Banbury while trying the get club on the radar a bit more.” He added he is keen for younger local bands to get in touch as they may be able to support bigger acts coming to town. There is also a possibility for people to arrange Battle of the Bands type events at the club. The next event is on March 13 and features four acts, including Folk The System who will play their first gig in 20 years. For details and tickets go to www.seetickets.com.
