Actors of all ages and experience are invited to a day of auditions for roles in Banbury’s next seasonal pantomime, Aladdin.
The show by Cherwell Theatre Company is a traditional British production incorporating visual comedy, slapstick and audience participation, and auctions are tomorrow (Saturday) at the Mill Arts Centre from 10am to 3pm.
Nasser Memarzia, director, said: “The main characters will be played by professional actors but there are still lots of other interesting and sizeable roles we are looking to cast. They include comic characters such as police officers, the Genie, the Emperor and Empress and the Princess and it will give enthusiastic non-professional actors a chance to work side by side with the pros!”
Rehearsals for the show begin in November and commitments will be one or two evenings a week up to Christmas with a week of intensive rehearsals at the beginning of January. The show will go on stage from January 10-19.
Mr Memarzia said: “It’s a great opportunity, particularly for performing arts students at GCSE and A-level who will have a rare chance to experience working in a professional environment. No-one needs to prepare audition marterial specially; we may ask them to read a short piece but it will be very informal and stress-free.”
