Monkey Bars, the award-winning verbatim show developed from conversations with more than 40 children aged between eight and ten, arrives at Chipping Norton Theatre on October 17.
These candid conversations, conducted by Karl James (ex Oxford Stage Company) focus on moments of transition and change – on being scared, getting lost, being brave, growing up – and children’s perspectives on the adult world that surrounds and awaits them.
Award-winning writer/director Chris Goode and six actors worked with full transcripts of the conversations, carefully re-shaping the children’s exchanges to create a variety of adult characters and situations. Reframing the dialogues by transplanting them into the world of grown-ups, Monkey Bars offers an adult audience a revelatory insight into what children are trying to tell us about their lives that we don’t always hear or take seriously.
Tickets cost £14 (concessions £12) and are available by calling the box office on 01608 642350 or at www.chippingnortontheatre.com.
