It’s only a spot of rain! Players dash for cover as storm strikes

Waiting for Video...

A violent storm that swept across the region on Saturday was captured on video as Banbury United played host to Bideford at Spencer Stadium.

The video - taken by Banbury United programme editor David Shadbolt – recorded the moment heavy rain turned to a torrential downpour, resulting in players from both sides and match officials sprinting for cover during the first half.

Play resumed after a short break, with Banbury United holding on to secure a 1-0 win in the Calor League Southern fixture courtesy of a 20th-minute goal from Marvin Martin.

The video, however, prompted just one question in the Banbury Guardian office – where is the Bideford keeper, who was in the goal closest to the camera?

As every other player made the dash to the changing rooms, reports suggest he took more direct action and joined the Banbury United faithful by diving for cover straight into the Spencer Stadium Town End!
