Staff and children have paid fond farewells to a head teacher at a Banbury primary school who retired on Tuesday.

Sally Newman (pictured with pupils) started out as deputy head teacher at William Morris Primary School in Bretch Hill before becoming head teacher in 2001. She said: “I am very excited about what the future holds, but really sad to leave this school because I have been here for so long, had so many happy memories and have worked alongside so many wonderful people. I will miss them all enormously.

“The school’s community spirit is fantastic and the children are really engaged in their learning.” New headteacher Lorna Middleton will start at the school in September.
