Robin Wood is only half the man he was – and he couldn’t be happier about it!
The 37-year-old support worker at Banbury’s Cheshire Home has taken the Slimming World Man of the Year title after losing 12 stone in just over a year.
And Mr Wood is now enjoying choosing a new wardrobe 14 months after he joined the Bodicote group.
He said: “I am confident I will maintain this for the rest of my life; it’s a lifestyle change not a diet. The funniest thing is that people don’t recognise me any more. I love buying clothes now and I can shop in high street stores as I’m a medium not my old XXXXL. I wear jeans, which I couldn’t before, as I was a size 50 waist.”
Mr Wood’s slimming regime has been helped by attending boxercise classes with Dave Earle at his Spit n Sawdust gym.
Shirley Warren, his Slimming World consultant said: “He’s amazing. He’s an inspiration to everyone he meets, always has great tips to share and is very supportive of others in their weight loss.
“Robin joined us the end of March last year after going for a pre-op for a carpal tunnel operation. He was so worried they would refuse the op as his BMI was 60.
“He joined with three colleagues from Agnes Court where he works as a support worker. He says his working life is so much easier now he is slim. He used to struggle assisting the residents, bending and picking things up off the floor.
“His biggest achievement now is that he can touch his own toes, which he can never remember being able to do.”
Mr Wood joins the national man of the year competition in Derby in July – with the first prize a seven night trip to Las Vegas or £3,000.
